CHILLI Food Stories – Love Is In The Air
We love developing food story ideas here at CHILLI and with it being Valentine’s weekend (and dry Jan now long forgotten!) we wanted to do something to celebrate. But forget cupid and their bow or a dozen roses we created a cocktail! (CHILLI Red of course)
With *Begonia flowers for some added romance and pomegranate ice cubes love may be in the air but it can also be in a Martini glass. We’ll drink to that!
So, turn your kitchen table in to your favourite bar and try the below recipe developed by our Chef Consultant Steph Moon with photography by Heidi Coppock Beard !
To make 2 servings.
Ingredients
1 shot of your favourite gin
1 shot of Grand Mariner
1 shot of strawberry juice (see recipe below)
Pomegranate ice cubes (see recipe below)
Tonic water
Begonia flowers (*These are available online. Please take care as not all flowers are edible. Always buy from a reputable supplier.)
To make pomegranate ice cubes
Combine 1 tablespoon pomegranate seeds with 6 tablespoons water (per cube) and freeze overnight.
To make the strawberry syrup
4 tablespoons of caster sugar
¼ pint of water.
1 punnet of strawberries – washed and hulled and sliced into 4-5 slices each
Add all ingredients to a pan and bring to a boil – once boiling remove and place in a container and allow to cool (Ideally overnight).
Strain to serve.
To make the cocktail
To assemble the cocktails, place the shot of gin and Grand Mariner in a jug with some ice. Add the strawberry juice and top up with tonic water. Place pomegranate ice cube in frosted glass. Place gin, Grand Mariner, strawberry juice and tonic water in a cocktail mixer. Shake well then strain into frosted glass.
Decorate with Begonia flowers. These are available online. Please take care as not all flowers are edible. Always buy from a reputable supplier.
We also added a tuile finger and spun sugar nest but feel free to add your own twist!
Cheers!
